Ultra Thick Embossing Powder - UTEE

Thick,
thicker and really, really, thick! The more
you use the thicker it gets. That’s the
beauty of ultra-thick embossing enamel known
as “UTEE”. Here’s a quick review of how to
use this versatile product.
Anywhere...anytime! How to apply UTEE
To use UTEE
all you need is a pigment ink pad or
Versamark pad/pen and heating tool.
Step 1
Select
your surface: paper, slide mounts,
stickers, charms, tags - really just
about anything that can withstand the
heat of an embossing gun can be coated
in UTEE
Step 2
Ink a
rubber stamp with Versamark or another
slow drying ink (such as the ink
supplied in the July kit) and stamp onto
surface. Or, directly rub the stamp pad
onto the desired surface or on the edges
of paper or tags.
Step 3
Over a
tray or clean paper, sprinkle the UTEE
over the inked area. Be generous to
ensure all ink is covered. Lift up and
tap off the excess UTEE back onto the
tray or paper and pour back into your
container - no need to waste it!
Step 4
Use your heat tool to melt the UTEE. Since
UTTE grains are much larger than regular
embossing powder, your heat tool will
scatter the grains if held too close. So
hold your heat gun 6 - 8 inches away
from your project and just as the
granules begin to melt, move it in
closer to about 4 inches away. Remember
to constantly move your heat tool so you
don’t burn or warp your project.
Thick,
thick and thicker - how and why to build
up UTEE
The thicker
the UTEE the more creative you can be with
it. One application will leave the surface
lumpy and almost pebble-like. A second layer
fills in some of the bumps to create a
smoother surface. A third layer creates a
smooth, tile-like surface. Layers added
after the third creates the same smooth
surface, but just thicker. The third layer
is a good time to try stamping directly into
it or sprinkling it with micro-beads,
glitter or even pressing an object into it.
- Once your UTEE has just melted, pour on more UTEE and
heat. You may need to apply more embossing
ink. Repeat two or three times to create
your desired surface.
-
While the UTEE is still hot, stamp directly into it -
and be quick, it cools fast! Leave the stamp
in the UTEE until it cools to get a deeper
image.
Change its
appearance
UTEE comes in
a variety of colours beside clear, such as
silver, gold and black. When using clear
UTEE, you can change its colour by putting
coloured embossing powder between UTEE
layers. Also, try cracking UTEE to change
its appearance. Do about three layers and
let it set. Then bend to crack. Try inking
the cracks to add some dimension. If you
want durability and don’t want your cracks
to chip, it’s recommended that you put a
think coat of Crystal Lacquer on top.
