Instructions from Jennifer Hottinger-Sloan
Projects by Jennifer Hottinger-Sloan and Tina Werner
1. Cut 3-6 pieces of 12 x 12 cardstock in half. Jennifer and Tina used black for their books. If you want to put a calendar on each page, you’ll need a total of 12 pages (3 sheets of cardstock). If you want to put a calendar on every second page, you’ll need a total of 24 pages (6 sheets of cardstock).

2. Fold each piece in half and stack together with all the folded edges on the same side. Glue the pages that are touching together, gluing right to the edges.
3. Cover the edge to the left where the paper folds are (the spine of the book) with a piece of paper that was scored. Jennifer used an approx. 5.75x5 inch piece of patterned paper and used the Enveloper tool from the October kit to score it. Score it twice to get a squared spine to accommodate the thickness of the book. If you do the 12-page book, you need about a 1/4 inch spine so score two lines ¼ inch apart. For the 24-page book, you need about a 1/2 inch spine. Glue with part of the paper at the front and part on the back as shown. You could also use a 5.75x12 inch piece of paper to cover the outside and make the spine at the same time. Keep in mind that you will lose a bit of length when you do the squared spine, so attach your paper about 1/8 to ¼ inch from the edge of your covers depending on the thickness of your book.
4. You can also use binding tape or ever coloured duct tape for the spine, as shown on Tina’s book. If you’re doing this, you’ll need to glue 6x6 pieces of patterned paper to the front and back covers before applying the tape. To add ribbons like Tina did, lay a piece of cord across the book spine before adding the tape. The cord will be taped into the spine. After the book is taped, tie the cord on the outside, then tie ribbons onto it.
5. Jennifer added additional patterned paper to the right side of front cover.
6. For the inner pages, cut up the 3 pages of calendar blanks from the November kit into 12 months and stamp month on the top corner of each. Glue pages to the book. Jennifer left the top unglued so the pages can be used as envelopes. Jennifer made 6 pages to insert in the envelopes from the Pine Cone Press paper in the kit which has the 9 blocks of colour.

7. Jennifer cut out tabs using her silhouette and stapled them to the inserts. Tabs could also be punched or cut out by hand. Tina made 12 tabs and attached one to each month’s page.
8. Jennifer added titles to the tabs using my dymo, but you could use stamps or rub ons. Tina cut month names from the Year ‘Round Stripes paper in the November kit and added them to her tabs.
9. To the front of the cover, Jennifer added a strip of ribbon, the large date stamp from the November kit and some other rubons from a prior kit. Tina embellished her book’s cover with gems from the November kit and a rubon.

10. Jennifer made her title with the chipboard from this month’s kit, ink, stamps from the September kit, and glossy accents. She added two brads and pop dotted it to the front. Then, she added a small inked chipboard piece with a thin ribbon by tying it onto the larger ribbon. Tina added rubons to chipboard from the kit, inked them, then tied them onto her decorative cord at the book’s spine.
